A shooting at an Airbnb in Indianapolis’ Broad Ripple area has left neighbors concerned about the proliferation of short-term rentals in the neighborhood. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, with security camera footage capturing rapid gunfire and witnesses reporting teens fleeing the scene.
Concerns Over Short-Term Rentals
A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration with the city’s current short-term rental registry, calling it a ‘joke’ and stating that the $150 registration fee is not enough to deter landlords from renting out their properties to partygoers. The neighbor pointed to a previous incident in which a woman was killed and two others were wounded during a shootout at an after-prom party at a short-term rental near 40th and Park.
The City of Indianapolis has confirmed that the short-term rental in question is registered with the city. However, neighbors are calling for stricter regulations on short-term rentals, citing concerns over public safety and the impact on the community.
