A hearing to determine if a Shively liquor store can keep its liquor license has been postponed. The store, HK Liquors, was issued an emergency suspension following a deadly quadruple shooting and reports of illegal gambling on the property.
Background
The shooting took place on Saturday around 3 a.m. in the 3200 block of Ralph Avenue. Police arrived and found four people shot, with one of them dying at the scene. Officials said the violence was associated with reports of illegal gambling.
Shively Alcoholic Beverage Control met with all parties involved behind closed doors on Friday. In that meeting, ABC agent R.T. Watkins said HK Liquors waived its right for the 10-day emergency hearing and is now in negotiations with ABC.
‘It is not our desire to close businesses down, but every alcohol licensee has to work within the bounds of the law. And we want to make sure that that’s going to happen and that the community is safe,’ Watkins said.
All parties will meet again on July 23 at 1 p.m. to potentially finalize the agreement.
