The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a community meeting to discuss the proposed Corrections and Rehabilitation Campus Project. The project, which was initially brought forward in response to Proposition 36, aims to expand the county’s alternative custody program.
Project Details
The proposed facility, tentatively slated to be built off Eastside Road in Redding, would provide an alternative custody facility for individuals with non-serious convictions, allowing them to serve their sentences outside of traditional jails or prisons. A draft contract for design of facilities at the site was unanimously approved by supervisors last November.
However, the project has garnered pushback from some community members, who have expressed concerns about the unclear scope of the facility and its potential impact on public safety and the environment. Sheriff Michael Johnson will be present at the community meeting to address concerns and answer questions from residents.
