Severe Winds Cause Damage in Kay County

Severe winds from storms in Ponca City caused damage to homes, trees, and power lines across Kay County, leaving residents to clean up the aftermath.

In Newkirk, the main damage was reported on Peckham Road, where a live power line is blocking the road. Residential areas also experienced tree damage, and one homeowner described how the storm impacted her property.

"My curtains sucked into the windows, and I could hear it blowing through. And then we came out, and the porch over here had been lifted off the cement, and all the tables and chairs were all over the yard," said Whitney Stephens. "The power went out a couple times, and it flickered back on, came back off, and then stayed on. But there was a line down the road here. The pole snapped in half."

The affected power line on Peckham Road is not the only one damaged. Authorities report that three miles of power lines are down between Blackwell and Tonkawa.
