Serena Williams’ Comeback Ends

Serena Williams, the 44-year-old tennis legend, saw her highly anticipated comeback at the Queen’s Club come to an abrupt end. Her doubles partner, 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko, suffered a knee injury during a singles match against Karolina Pliskova, forcing her to withdraw from the tournament.

Williams and Mboko had won their first match together, defeating third-seeded duo Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe 7-6 (2), 6-2. They were set to face Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund in the quarterfinals before Mboko’s injury.

Williams is scheduled to play doubles at the Berlin Open in Germany next week, although her partner has not been announced. With 23 Grand Slam singles titles under her belt, including seven at Wimbledon, Williams’ return to tennis was highly anticipated.
