Sen. Tommy Tuberville Releases Tax Returns to Confirm Alabama Residency

Senator Tommy Tuberville has taken a significant step in his campaign for Alabama governor by releasing his income tax returns. This move aims to address and resolve ongoing questions about his residency status, which is crucial for his gubernatorial candidacy.

Residency Requirements and Proof

Tuberville, who owns homes in both Alabama and Florida, has faced scrutiny regarding whether he has lived in Alabama for the required seven years to qualify for the gubernatorial race. His campaign has now provided tax returns from 2018 to 2025, which indicate that he has been a resident of Alabama since August 1, 2018, listing an Auburn address.

The tax returns, filed jointly with his wife Suzanne, have been redacted for monetary details but serve as part of a comprehensive package of documents, including property records, that Tuberville’s campaign plans to submit to the Republican Steering Committee.

Ongoing Challenges and Hearing

Despite winning the Republican primary on May 19, Tuberville’s eligibility is still being challenged by former opponent Ken McFeeters. The Alabama Republican Party has scheduled a hearing to address these concerns later this month. Tuberville’s campaign chairman, Jordan Doufexis, expressed confidence that the evidence will demonstrate Tuberville’s compliance with all constitutional requirements.

Doufexis stated, “We are very grateful to the Republican Steering Committee for agreeing to hold a formal hearing on this matter and not dismissing the allegations too quickly. We know their time is valuable, but we have no doubt that they will commit to evaluating the facts and reaching an impartial decision.”

Upcoming Election

Tuberville is set to face Democratic nominee Doug Jones in the November general election. Jones, a former U.S. senator, was unseated by Tuberville in the 2020 Senate race, adding a layer of familiarity and rivalry to the upcoming contest.
