Australia’s Megaport to Expand AI Infrastructure with New U.S. Contracts

Australia’s Megaport has announced the acquisition of four new AI infrastructure contracts with U.S.-based technology providers, valued at approximately A$458.9 million ($329.49 million). This strategic move is part of Megaport’s broader initiative to enhance its AI capabilities, particularly in the realm of AI inference, which is expected to see significant growth in the coming years.

Investment in AI Infrastructure

The company plans to invest nearly A$369.5 million in capital expenditure to support these contracts, focusing on high-performance Nvidia GPUs, network, and storage infrastructure. This investment is part of a larger effort to establish a globally distributed AI inference cloud, supported by an on-demand GPU pool with a backing of A$350 million. This infrastructure will be available to enterprise customers through both contracted and consumption-based pricing models.

Megaport’s CEO, Michael Reid, emphasized the importance of AI inference as a major infrastructure opportunity for the next decade. As organizations increasingly adopt AI, the demand for seamless access to GPUs, CPUs, storage, and connectivity is expected to rise. Megaport’s extensive network of over 1,100 data centers across 31 countries positions it well to deliver AI compute closer to end users, addressing critical bottlenecks such as power, connectivity, and access to high-performance GPUs.

Financial Strategy and Market Position

In conjunction with these contracts, Megaport has launched a fully underwritten entitlement offer to raise A$827.3 million ($594 million), priced at A$14.30 per share, representing a 13.9% discount to its last closing price. This capital raise is intended to support the company’s expansion into AI infrastructure and strengthen its market position.

Additionally, Megaport has adjusted its 2026 revenue guidance to A$307 million-A$315 million, reflecting strong momentum in its network business. This revision indicates a tightening of previous expectations, which ranged from A$302 million to A$317 million.
