Sen. Tim Scott Says Republicans Confident of Senate Majority Despite Poll Shifts

Sen. Tim Scott, R‑South Carolina, appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday to discuss the upcoming November Senate elections. As chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Scott said he is “very confident” that Republicans will retain a majority in the U.S. Senate.

When moderator Kristen Welker cited the Cook Political Report’s recent shift of several contests—from “lean Republican” to “toss‑up” in states such as Texas and Iowa—Scott pushed back. He argued that the Democratic challengers are out of touch with voters on faith, taxation and cultural issues, and that the Republican advantage remains clear.

Texas race

Scott highlighted the Texas Senate race, noting that Democratic state Rep. James Talarico is “completely out of step with Texans” on matters of taxation, faith and culture. He avoided a direct response to questions about Republican nominee Ken Paxton’s past allegations of fraud and bribery and his impeachment by the Republican‑controlled Texas House, instead emphasizing the contrast between Paxton and Talarico. “James Talarico will not be the senator for Texas… we will keep Texas red to the roots,” Scott said.

Michigan contest

Turning to Michigan, Scott addressed concerns about Democratic candidate Abdul El‑Sayed, who faces former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers. Welker referenced a Washington Post analysis that found right‑wing online posts mentioning Islam and Sharia, but noted no evidence linking El‑Sayed to terrorist organizations. Scott defended the campaign’s focus on El‑Sayed’s past political associations and his positions on law‑enforcement and national‑security agencies, stating, “The company you keep does matter. We all know that.”

Iowa showdown

In Iowa, Scott expressed strong support for Republican Ashley Hinson against Democratic challenger Josh Turek. He criticized Turek’s economic and tax policies, reiterating confidence that Hinson will retain the seat for the GOP.

Throughout the interview, Scott framed the broader Senate outlook as a battle against what he described as “the most dangerous, radical and frankly, weird Democrats” he has seen in his lifetime. He maintained that despite recent polling adjustments, the Republican Party’s message on faith, family and fiscal responsibility will carry voters to victory.

Scott’s remarks come as the NRSC ramps up its national messaging and fundraising efforts ahead of the November elections, aiming to protect the GOP’s Senate majority and advance its legislative agenda.
