Sempra Infrastructure’s ECA LNG Project Begins LNG Production in Mexico

Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, has achieved a significant milestone with the commencement of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at its ECA LNG Phase 1 project in Ensenada, Mexico. This development is part of the commissioning process leading up to full commercial operations expected later this year.

Strategic Location and Global Impact

Located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, the ECA LNG facility is strategically positioned to supply U.S. natural gas to Asian and other Pacific Basin markets. This location offers the shortest shipping route, reducing transit times and transportation costs, thereby providing customers with more competitive access to U.S. natural gas.

The project is a joint venture with TotalEnergies and includes a single liquefaction train with a capacity of 3.25 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG. Long-term sales and purchase agreements with TotalEnergies and Mitsui & Co. support the project, ensuring a reliable supply chain.

Future Developments and Company Vision

ECA LNG Phase 1 is expected to reach substantial completion in the summer of 2026, with commercial operations beginning shortly thereafter. Sempra Infrastructure is also developing a second phase at the same site, further expanding its dual-coast LNG portfolio.

Headquartered in Houston, Sempra Infrastructure is committed to delivering energy solutions that enhance energy security and reliability. The company’s focus on modern energy infrastructure, including LNG and low-carbon solutions, positions it as a key player in the future energy landscape.

This announcement underscores Sempra Infrastructure’s dedication to meeting global energy demands while maintaining high standards of project development and execution.
