Families in Las Cruces with school-aged children will soon receive Sunbucks, a federal initiative designed to support summer food purchases. The program aims to assist families by providing $120 per child, distributed on a debit card, to be used for groceries during the summer months.
Program Details
The Sunbucks program, also known as Summer EBT, will issue benefits three times this year: June 15, July 15, and September 15. Each eligible child will receive one issuance of $120. Families who participated last year will have their benefits loaded onto the existing card starting June 15. For those needing a replacement card, they can contact NMHCA after June 21 at 1-800-283-4465.
Where to Use Sunbucks
Sunbucks can be spent at various locations including grocery stores, markets, farmers markets, and select online retailers. A full list of eligible online retailers is available on the USDA’s website.
Eligibility Criteria
No application is necessary for Sunbucks. Eligibility is determined by income and is available to families whose children receive free or reduced-price school meals. Families can check their eligibility or find more information by visiting the New Mexico Human Services Department website.
This initiative reflects a commitment to supporting families and ensuring children have access to nutritious food during the summer break, aligning with community values of family support and welfare.
