SANTA FE, N.M. — A Saturday night/early Sunday morning crash led to the arrest of a local woman who is accused of fatally striking a pedestrian while allegedly driving under the influence. The collision occurred at about 2 a.m. near the intersection of Agua Fria Street and Cottonwood Drive.
Responding officers and paramedics found both the vehicle’s driver and an injured pedestrian at the scene. Medical crews transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities have not released the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
Police identified the driver as 23-year-old Ana Reyes of Santa Fe. Officers on scene reported observing signs of impairment and said they suspected Reyes had been driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Following a DWI investigation, Reyes was taken into custody and booked on charges of DWI vehicular homicide. The arrest came after on-scene testing and interviewing by the investigating officers.
