San Marcos Introduces Fees for Nonresidents at Rio Vista Park

Residents of San Marcos will soon see changes at Rio Vista Park as the City Council has approved a plan to charge nonresidents a fee for park access on weekends and holidays. Starting June 20, adults who do not reside within the city limits, lack a 78666 zip code, or do not live within the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District boundary will be required to pay $5 for entry. Children aged 17 and younger will continue to enjoy free access.

Local Residents Benefit

To ensure that local residents can continue to enjoy the park without additional costs, the city has introduced the Rio Vista Park Pass. This pass will allow residents who meet the criteria to enter the park for free. The city is currently developing an online registration system for obtaining the park pass and paying the entrance fee, though these systems have not yet been made public.

Parking Adjustments

On days when fees are enforced, some parking lots or roads may be closed or restricted to ensure accessible parking. However, the city assures that parking will remain available nearby, minimizing inconvenience for park visitors.

Fee Enforcement Days

The entrance fees will be enforced on weekends and holidays throughout the summer, providing a structured approach to managing park access and ensuring that local residents can continue to enjoy their community space.
