San Marcos Business Updates

San Marcos is seeing a surge in new businesses, with several openings in recent months. Sephora, a popular beauty retailer, opened its doors on May 5 at the San Marcos Premium Outlets. The store offers a wide selection of makeup, skincare, and haircare products, as well as fragrances.

New Businesses

Thirsty Planet Brewing Company, founded by Brian Smittle, opened its tasting room on March 14 after almost shutting its doors for good in 2023. The spot features a beer garden theme, with a 10-tap draft system and televisions throughout the facility. Tejas Birria, a small family-owned business serving Tijuana-style Birria De Res, is opening its first food truck in San Marcos and will operate from the kitchen of Southbound Social.

O’Reilly’s Auto Parts is developing its third store location in San Marcos, offering a variety of auto parts. Approximately 38,000 square feet of the sixth floor of the Texas State University library will undergo interior renovations, including the construction of new staff offices and student group study support spaces.

Education and Dining

Students of Texas State University will have access to Qdoba, a chain Mexican restaurant, and Jimmy John’s, a customizable sandwich shop, with remodels of the Jones Dining Center and Undergraduate Academic Center set to be completed on August 15. Godfrey Learning Academy, a secular private microschool, is expanding its operations and relocating from Kyle to San Marcos.

The LBJ Museum of San Marcos, which honors the 36th president of the United States’ time at Southwest Texas State Teachers College, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Brunello Cucinelli, a luxury brand, will soon open a location in the San Marcos Premium Outlets, offering apparel, footwear, and accessories for men, women, and children.
