The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is celebrating two longtime volunteers who have helped shape the event’s legacy. Alex Peña and Christopher “Kit” Goldsbury Jr. have been selected as the 2027 inductees into the rodeo’s Hall of Fame, a distinction reserved for those who have made a lasting impact on the organization’s mission to serve Texas youth.
Volunteer roots and lifelong dedication
Both men were nominated by fellow rodeo volunteers and approved by the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Hall of Fame Committee, a group formed in 1999 to recognize outstanding service. More than 7,000 volunteers help run the rodeo each year, and the committee’s work highlights the importance of community involvement.
Peña has been a life member of the rodeo for over 35 years, beginning his service on the ambassador committee. He later played a pivotal role in creating the first cattle drive through downtown San Antonio, an event that has grown into the annual Western Heritage Weekend. That weekend now features a cattle drive, parade, 5K run and the popular Vaquero Cook‑Off, drawing families and visitors from across the region.
Generosity that builds the future
Goldsbury, a life member for more than 25 years, is celebrated for his generosity and ongoing support of the rodeo. He donated 61 acres of land, providing a permanent home for the Bar‑B‑Que Cook‑Off and other competitive events. The rodeo’s release notes that while their contributions differ, both men share a common spirit of service: a willingness to give what they can to something larger than themselves.
“Being part of the rodeo is like being part of a family,” Peña said in the announcement, underscoring the close‑knit nature of the volunteer community.
