A San Antonio road rage incident turned violent when a man and a woman, Daniel Jude Jimenez, Jr., 32, and Lois Badillo-Lopez, 29, allegedly engaged in a shootout with another vehicle on Interstate 10. The incident began when the other driver’s vehicle splashed water onto Jimenez’s vehicle, prompting Jimenez to yell at the driver and eventually fire a semi-automatic rifle at him.
Details of the Incident
The other driver, who has not been named, told police that he was traveling on East Houston Street near I-10 when his vehicle drove through a puddle, splashing water onto Jimenez’s vehicle. As both vehicles turned onto the access road and merged onto I-10, Jimenez accelerated and began driving alongside the other driver’s vehicle. Jimenez then lowered his window and began yelling at the other driver, who said he feared for his safety and retrieved his lawfully possessed handgun.
According to the other driver, Jimenez fired multiple rounds at his vehicle, and he returned fire before exiting the highway and calling 911. The other driver’s vehicle was struck multiple times, but he was not injured. Jimenez and Badillo-Lopez were arrested and charged with multiple counts, with bonds set at $150,000 each.
Badillo-Lopez told detectives that she had retrieved her own handgun during the incident and given it to Jimenez, who then fired at the other vehicle. Jimenez and Badillo-Lopez did not contact law enforcement after the shooting and instead discarded spent shell casings.
Investigation and Charges
The San Antonio Police Department investigated the incident and obtained dashcam footage from the other driver, which showed the splashed puddle, the suspects’ vehicle catching up, and the exchange of gunfire. The footage also allowed investigators to identify the license plate of Jimenez’s vehicle, which was registered to him and frequently parked at his South Side apartment complex.
Jimenez and Badillo-Lopez are due back in court on October 20 for pre-indictment hearings. The incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the importance of remaining calm and safe while driving.
