San Antonio Lightning, Heavy Rain Prompt Dramatic Resident Photos and Flood Reports

San Antonio was under a dramatic sky this weekend as KSAT Connect users sent in photos and videos of lightning, heavy rain and booming storms. The KSAT Weather Authority team tracked pockets of 1 to 3 inches of rain in parts of the city and warned of flooding and renewed downpours later on Saturday. Users across neighborhoods, including reports from South Bexar County and Star Crossing, shared striking images of the storm’s power and the relief the rain brought.

Many readers snapped lightning over backyards and captured sheets of rain moving through streets, sending those moments to KSAT Connect. The images and clips show both intense strikes and the quieter side of storms, like steady rain soaking lawns and gutters. San Antonio residents reported spots of heavy accumulation after a rainy Friday night into the weekend.

The KSAT Weather Authority team says the main round of rain should taper off by midday, but the atmosphere will stay unstable and showers or storms could redevelop late Saturday afternoon and into the evening. Wherever storms bubble up again, we could see brief but intense downpours and pockets of street flooding. Conditions will also support the chance for strong storms, so caution is advised if you must be out during those hours.

Totals through the recent stretch varied by neighborhood, with the KSAT Weather Authority team reporting 1 to 3 inches in some locations since Friday night. One user in South Bexar County noted they had seen 1 inch since the previous night and nearly 6 inches for the month of May in their area. That kind of localized rainfall is typical with scattered, slow-moving convective storms that drop heavy rain over small areas.

We pulled together some of the standout submissions from KSAT Connect so you can see what the weather looked like around town. The photos and clips arrived from across the San Antonio area, showing everything from dramatic cloud-to-ground lightning to steady rain that many folks called “much needed.” The variety of submissions underscores how uneven these storms can be across neighborhoods.
