Russia has rejected the idea of a ceasefire with Ukraine in the Black Sea, stating that it sees no grounds for “half-measures” that would offer a respite to the other side.
Recent Attacks
Both Russia and Ukraine have increased attacks on commercial ships in the Black Sea, leading to higher world grain prices. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, accused Ukraine of “brazen acts of terrorism” against shipping, without mentioning Russia’s own attacks.
Zakharova stated that Russia had received no formal proposal from Turkey for a moratorium on military operations in the Black Sea. She also mentioned that it was not feasible to return to the 2022-23 Black Sea grain initiative, which allowed Russia and Ukraine to continue supplying world markets.
