Two men were shot on Friday afternoon in Roxboro, police said. Roxboro police found the men at the scene of the shooting on Holly Street near Lyle Street. Authorities took both men to an area hospital.

Police said one of the men is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The other man is in stable condition, police said.

Everett Palmer, 27, is in the custody of Roxboro police. “These senseless acts of violence must cease,” Roxboro Police Chief David Hess said. “I commend the citizens who had the courage to provide information to police on scene that allowed for the quick arrest of the alleged suspect.

A swift response by law enforcement and help of the public allowed law enforcement to detain the alleged suspect on scene.” Police said the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
