As Route 66 marks its 100th anniversary, bikers from across the globe are hitting the road to celebrate this iconic highway. The tour, which also honors the 125th anniversary of Indian Motorcycles, brings together riders for a journey filled with camaraderie and shared experiences.
Albuquerque Welcomes Riders
The Legends Never Die Tour spans over 2,000 miles from Chicago to California, with Albuquerque being a key stop along the route. Zeke Espinoza, president of the Indian Motorcycle Rider’s Group for Albuquerque, represents the Duke City in this memorable event. Riders are expected to arrive in Albuquerque around noon, where they will gather at the Indian Motorcycle dealership on Alameda.
The event in Albuquerque will feature a chili cook-off and various vendor activities. Proceeds from these activities will support the family of Joel “Dean” Valdez, a former Marine who tragically went missing last September and was later found deceased.
Global Participation and Personal Journeys
Riders from diverse backgrounds have joined the tour, each bringing their unique perspectives. Participants hail from places like Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Sydney, Australia, underscoring the universal appeal of Route 66. For many, this journey is a deeply personal experience, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts and explore the historic route.
The significance of Route 66 resonates with riders worldwide. As one participant noted, “Regardless if you are American or not, everyone knows Route 66. It’s iconic, it’s a bucket list destination.” Another rider emphasized the importance of experiencing the highway, stating, “You have to do Route 66. You have to check that box, no questions, just do it.”
This celebration not only highlights the enduring legacy of Route 66 but also brings together a community of riders who share a passion for the open road and the history it represents.
