Roman Forest Zoning Regulations

Roman Forest city council members are discussing potential zoning regulations to limit future commercial development in the city. The regulations would restrict commercial development to portions of Roman Forest Boulevard, Galaxy Boulevard, and Appian Way.

Proposed Zoning Regulations

Mayor Chris Parr expressed interest in restricting commercial development, suggesting that only parts of Appian Way and the corners of major intersections should be used for commercial purposes. Council member Ricky Warwick proposed zoning commercial development on one side of Appian Way and residential on the other. Parr agreed with Warwick’s suggestion, stating that regulating commercial development with good ordinances and foresight is essential.

The city’s comprehensive plan, approved in September, laid the groundwork for potential zoning regulations. The plan includes 10 potential land-use categories, such as single-family residential detached, neighborhood commercial, and public institutional.

Next Steps

The city will likely hold at least one additional workshop to review the proposed zoning regulations. Once the plans are complete, the proposed zoning regulations will need to be brought to an open meeting to give residents an opportunity to provide input.
