The Indiana Department of Transportation is planning temporary traffic restrictions on U.S. 20 Wednesday evening in Elkhart County as crews work to remove an overhead sign structure.
Restrictions and Slowdowns
Officials say the work will take place on eastbound U.S. 20 near the interchange with State Road 19 and will require both lane restrictions and rolling slowdowns. The restrictions will affect all lanes of eastbound U.S. 20, along with the passing lane of westbound U.S. 20, as crews prepare the area for overhead sign removal.
From approximately 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., crews will conduct two rolling slowdowns in the eastbound lanes to complete the removal of the overhead structure. Each slowdown is expected to last about 10 minutes, with at least a 20-minute break between each operation, according to INDOT.
INDOT is advising drivers to slow down, remain alert, and follow all posted signage and instructions from traffic control personnel while traveling through the work zone. Temporary directional signage will remain in place until a replacement overhead structure can be installed.
