Rogan: Trump may declassify UFOs to distract public from Iran war

Joe Rogan and Rep. Tim Burchett discussed a possible Trump move to declassify Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena files as a strategic counterpunch to the Iran conflict, with Burchett warning that Pentagon resistance could slow or block real transparency; the conversation touched on public frustration over foreign interventions, presidential legacy, and the long-running push to release UFO-related material to the American people.

On his podcast, Joe Rogan floated a blunt idea: President Donald Trump might release classified UAP files now as a way to change the political conversation amid grim headlines from Iran. Rogan pointed to stalled operations and public anger at involvement overseas, suggesting that a dramatic disclosure would give Americans something else to focus on. The tone was skeptical but pragmatic, where political theater and legacy-building collide.

Rogan argued, “What doesn’t totally make sense is why now—disclosure—other than, I mean this is being cynical… The Iran war is not going very well,” and added, “The American public’s very upset. A lot of people don’t think we should have ever been involved in that in the first place. And we need some good news.” That sequence captures why a president might opt for transparency now: to answer public demand and to flip the script. Rogan then said, “We need something to distract us,” and followed with, “We need something to take our focus off—” which highlights the blunt calculus at play.

Rep. Tim Burchett, a persistent voice for UAP disclosure on the House Oversight Committee, agreed the timing looks suspicious while offering a simpler read on Trump’s motives. Burchett interjected, “If I was gonna do it, now would be the time I’d do it,” and later said, “I don’t think Trump really even cares [about the distraction]. I think he just wants to get it out there.” He emphasized that for the president this is partly about legacy and partly about a genuine belief that the public deserves the information.

Even if the White House wants to move, Burchett warned that entrenched bureaucratic forces could be the real brake. “The war pimps at the Pentagon and everybody else, they just don’t give up that easy,” he said, using language he has long used to describe defense contractors and hawkish elements. That critique fits a broader Republican unease with an outsized military-industrial complex that can resist civilian control and slow transparency efforts.

Observers have pointed to outside experts who say declassification could reveal decades of obfuscation, and Trump himself has teased forthcoming releases from a Pentagon study on UFOs. Rogan framed the move as one a president might make in a final term: “He also realizes America wants to know it… and I mean, this is his last term, right? If someone’s going to do it, do it,” and added, “You want to leave a legacy? Be the guy who releases all these files.” The narrative of last-term boldness plays well for folks who want government held accountable and secrets exposed.

Burchett also used his platform to tie the UAP debate into broader budget and foreign policy complaints, arguing that the drain of foreign engagements weakens domestic priorities. “I haven’t voted for a dime for that. It’s not our dad gum war,” Burchett said. “Keep my dollars here. We need to defend our own dad gum borders,” which reflects a populist strain emphasizing domestic security over distant nation-building.

This exchange underscores several tensions within the GOP coalition: a desire for government accountability and transparency, impatience with ongoing foreign entanglements, and suspicion of a defense establishment that guards its secrets. For many conservatives who supported Trump as an outsider, the promise to upend entrenched power and reveal hidden truths remains central to his appeal. If declassification happens, supporters will see it as evidence that someone in the White House is willing to take on the bureaucracy.

Whether Trump moves forward and whether the Pentagon will comply are open questions, but the conversation on Rogan’s show made the political calculation plain. For rank-and-file voters who feel ignored or misled about foreign wars, disclosure could be a symbolic victory and a tangible piece of answers they have demanded for years. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
