Modest Mouse has dropped guitarist Simon O’Connor from their upcoming tour dates amid allegations that he sent inappropriate messages to a minor. The band announced O’Connor’s departure on social media, stating that Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav will be taking his place on guitar.
A 16-year-old female fan had posted screenshots on Reddit, claiming that O’Connor sent her an erotic image and engaged in a conversation with her after she liked some of his Instagram stories. The accuser alleged that O’Connor quickly deleted the message and later admitted to making a mistake.
O’Connor addressed the incident, stating that he opposes any sexual behavior towards minors and that he was dealing with a person who had been ‘messing with him’ on social media in the past. He claimed that he had poor judgment and reached out with a tasteless meme, but quickly realized his mistake and ceased communication.
O’Connor apologized to the person who received the messages, saying that they didn’t deserve to be put in that position and that he was sorry for the stress and attention this has brought them.
