Chicago’s Douglass Park will host Riot Fest again this September, and for the first time the organizers are providing an official parking solution for drivers. The three‑day music event, scheduled for Sept. 19‑20, will feature headliners such as Tool, Twenty One Pilots, Pierce The Veil and Alanis Morrisette.
Official parking details
The festival has secured a Union Pacific lot at 1425 S. Western Ave., with the main entrance at 14th Street and Western Avenue. The lot is a ten‑ to twelve‑minute walk from the festival grounds. It will be open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight and will be professionally managed with security personnel, lighting, traffic control, staffed entry and exit points, and portable restrooms.
General parking costs $50 per vehicle per day, taxes and fees included. For drivers who prefer a spot closer to the lot’s entrances and exits, a $65 option is available, also inclusive of taxes and fees. The passes are single‑entry only; once a vehicle leaves the lot, the pass cannot be used for re‑entry, and overnight parking is not permitted.
Why the change?
Riot Fest Executive Director George Herrera explained that the new lot aims to help attendees who travel from the suburbs or outside the Chicago area, especially those with limited transit options. “We’re always looking for ways to make getting to and from Riot Fest easier while also minimizing the impact on the surrounding community,” Herrera said in an email to Block Club Chicago.
In previous years, many drivers relied on free street parking or private spaces listed on services such as ParkWhiz and SpotHero. Some festivalgoers even parked several miles away—near Reggies Chicago at 2105 S. State St., more than five miles from Douglass Park—and used the festival’s free shuttles to reach the venue.
How to secure a spot
Parking passes can be purchased in advance, and a limited number of day‑of‑the‑event passes may be sold depending on availability. Herrera urges anyone who knows they will be driving to buy a pass ahead of time, as space is limited and will be allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
Official parking is presented as an additional option, not a replacement for public transit. Herrera reiterated that the festival continues to encourage the use of CTA trains, Metra, rideshare services and biking, recognizing that those alternatives may not work for every attendee.
Festival tickets
Parking passes do not include admission to Riot Fest. General admission tickets start at $115 per day and can be purchased through the festival’s official website.
