The Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN) has officially become the owner of its new headquarters in the historically Black Harlem neighborhood. The building, formerly the Faison Firehouse Theater, was purchased after the owner, George Faison, chose to sell to NAN over a large developer.
A New Home for NAN
Sharpton stated that he wants to make the organization’s presence in Harlem permanent, and owning a building is a significant step towards that goal. The new headquarters, named the “House of Justice Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Workshop,” will serve as a hub for the organization’s activities, including its weekly Saturday rallies.
The purchase and renovation of the building are seen as a significant investment in the community, and Sharpton plans to use the space to host various events, including salons, poetry readings, and jazz nights, as a nod to the Harlem Renaissance.
Sharpton’s daughters, Ashley and Dominique, have been involved with the organization and are committed to carrying on their father’s legacy. Ashley, who is the director of NAN’s youth initiatives, feels a deep stake in the organization’s future and is excited about the new headquarters.
The National Action Network has been a prominent voice in the community, advocating for social justice and civil rights. The organization’s new home is a testament to its commitment to the community and its desire to make a lasting impact.
