Rescued Beagle Found Alive After Alligator Scare

Omelette, a 2-year-old beagle, was one of about 1,500 dogs recently rescued from a Wisconsin lab breeding operation and brought to Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Palm Beach County for adoption.

After being adopted, Omelette escaped through a hole in a fence and vanished. For three days, staff at Big Dog Ranch searched for him, and then came the horrifying news: a dog’s body had been found on a canal bank near where Omelette disappeared, apparently killed by an alligator.

However, Omelette’s story was not over. On Wednesday night, Big Dog Ranch got another call. A good Samaritan had spotted a dog resembling Omelette dodging traffic along U.S. 1 and rescued him. Staff confirmed it was Omelette after seeing a photo of his identifying tattoo.

Omelette’s Journey

Omelette is now headed to foster care and is expected to be up for adoption again. Big Dog Ranch Rescue says Omelette and other rescued beagles are still looking for loving homes.

Lauree Simmons, CEO of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, said alligators are one of the top dangers for dogs in Florida. The rescue is warning dog owners to be aware of the risks and take necessary precautions to keep their pets safe.
