The Cincinnati Reds’ ace, Hunter Greene, is set to make his season debut on July 4 against the Orioles at Great American Ball Park. Greene has been recovering from surgery on his throwing elbow, which was performed in early March to address bone chips and loose bodies.
Rehab Starts
Greene made three rehab starts last month, including two in affiliated ball. In his last start on June 28, he allowed just one hit over 6.1 scoreless innings against the Saint Paul Saints.
The Reds’ pitching staff, which has the eighth-worst ERA in baseball at 4.62, is expected to receive a boost from Greene’s return. The team has struggled with its bullpen, and three members of the current starting rotation have an ERA over 5.00.
Closer Emilio Pagan is also returning to the roster this week after missing nearly two months with a left hamstring strain.
