The MLB All-Star Game took place on Tuesday night, featuring three Red Sox players: Willson Contreras, Aroldis Chapman, and Ceddanne Rafaela. Contreras had a notable performance, entering the game as a defensive replacement and later getting his first All-Star Game hit since 2018.
Red Sox Players’ Performances
Contreras replaced starting first baseman Ben Rice in the bottom of the fourth inning and made a few notable plays, including a full stretch to retire Andy Pages. He also got to bat in the top of the sixth inning, hitting a chopper shot through the right side of the infield for his first All-Star Game hit since 2018.
Rafaela, the Red Sox’ budding star, made his first All-Star Game appearance, replacing starting center fielder Mike Trout in the fourth inning. He had two at-bats, striking out in both, but remained in the field for the remainder of the game.
Chapman, the Red Sox’ closer, entered the game in the ninth inning and struck out Jordan Walker, the winner of Monday night’s Home Run Derby. He then retired Matt Olson on one pitch, inducing a harmless popup to shallow center.
