Blood Shortage Worsens
The summer season typically sees a dip in blood donations, but this year’s drop is 25% more severe than usual. Washbish attributes this to people being on vacation, schools being out, and individuals taking extra-long weekends, resulting in fewer blood donations.
The shortage is particularly concerning for Type O blood, which can be used across a wide range of patients at hospitals nationwide. Washbish emphasized that the Red Cross will accept all types of blood but urgently needs Type O donations.
