Pueblo Bridge Project

Pueblo, Colorado has begun the process of building a bridge to connect the two closed ends of 24th Street on the West Side. The project aims to improve street connectivity in the area, which has been hindered by a lack of crossings over the railroad tracks.

Project Details

A study has been conducted to determine the feasibility of the bridge, which would cross the railroad tracks between Atlanta Avenue and Adrian Avenue. A public open house was also held at Centennial High School to inform citizens about the project and gather feedback.

According to Andrew Hayes, Pueblo’s public works director, the bridge is currently in the design phase, and no timetable, cost estimate, or funding source has been determined yet. Hayes expects that some phases of the project will take around ten years to complete.

The West Side of Pueblo has seen some residential and commercial development in recent years, particularly with the opening of Medal of Honor Boulevard and the construction of a new fire station. However, the lack of street connectivity remains a concern, with only two crossings over the railroad tracks currently available.

Residents who attended the public open house expressed concerns about how future development along 24th Street would affect adjacent neighborhoods. The city will need to balance the need for improved connectivity with the potential impacts on local residents and businesses.
