High Desert Christian Academy, a Christian school in Prineville, Ore., has announced it will permanently close at the end of July. The school, which claims to have been in operation for over three decades, made the announcement on Facebook, thanking the community for their support.
History of the School
The academy was founded as Crook County Christian School at First Assembly of God Church in 1994, but later became an independent nonprofit in 2015, adopting the name High Desert Christian Academy. However, Oregon Secretary of State records show that HDCA was formed in 2015 and was not a name change. The school served students from preschool through 12th grade and emphasized Christian education alongside academic instruction.
The closure comes after a period of controversy surrounding the academy, including allegations involving grant funding and governance. The school had continued to advertise enrollment and tuition assistance for the upcoming school year, but those references have been removed from their website.
