Photo Cleveland, a non-profit organization, is offering a fresh look at experimental visual arts in the Cleveland area. Led by directors Jim Szudy and Cara Gaetano, the organization provides educational programming and exhibition opportunities for photographers working with film, video, and mixed media.

Immersive Experiences

Photo Cleveland prides itself on turning art gallery shows into immersive experiences. Gaetano, who spent many years curating arts exhibitions, aims to create engaging events that go beyond the typical art show. “We want everyone to experience something while they’re at our openings,” Szudy added. The events will feature music, independent filmmakers, and multimedia presentations, as well as plenty of food and drink.

One of the upcoming events is the “Film In Focus” series, which presents a free public screening of David Lynch’s “Eraserhead” on July 31 at the Tower Press Building. The event will also include a short lecture about Lynch’s films and a collection of video shorts.

Upcoming Exhibitions

Photo Cleveland’s next exhibition, “Intentional Unconventional: Experimental Photography and Video,” will open on August 1 at Unhinged Lounge. The exhibition will feature works using unconventional methods of photography and photo development, such as double exposures and photos taken on toy cameras or with expired film.
