Princeton defeats Moeller 31-24 at Paycor Stadium to open high school football season

On Thursday night, the lights of Paycor Stadium shone brightly for a local high‑school football tradition. Princeton High School faced longtime rival Moeller High School in a game that marked the start of the 2026 high‑school football season.

Princeton emerged victorious, 31‑24, delivering the first win over Moeller since 1991. The victory ended a 19‑game winning streak for Moeller in the series, a streak that had stretched back over three decades.

Alumni reflect on the significance

Former Princeton players highlighted the importance of the matchup. “Growing up, the Princeton‑Moeller game was everything,” said Princeton alum Garrick Berkhalter. “That’s what you went to.” Another alumnus, Kevin Hill, described the atmosphere as “absolutely electric,” noting that the bottom bowl of the stadium was filled with fans.

Moeller alumni also expressed admiration for the setting. “They grow up around this, they come to these games, you see the kids out here right now throwing the football and running around, they all want to be on this field,” said Moeller graduate John Buckley. He added that the opportunity for players to use the Bengals’ locker rooms was “incredible.”

Family and community pride

Beyond the score, families and supporters emphasized the unique experience of competing in an NFL venue. Many parents noted that the chance to watch their children play on a professional field added a special layer of pride and excitement to the season opener.

The game also reinforced the deep‑rooted rivalry that has defined both schools for generations. While Moeller had dominated the series for 19 straight meetings, Princeton’s breakthrough win re‑energized the community and set a hopeful tone for the rest of the season.

Looking ahead

Both programs now turn their attention to upcoming matchups, with Princeton hoping to build on its momentum and Moeller seeking to restore its dominance. The shared love of football among fans on both sides underscores the role of high‑school athletics in bringing together families, alumni, and the broader Cincinnati community.

As the season progresses, the Princeton‑Moeller rivalry will continue to be a focal point for local sports enthusiasts, reminding everyone of the enduring spirit of high‑school football in the region.
