The Riggsby Is Gone From This List, But Estadio Absolutely Isn’t — and It Should Be on Your List

There is a moment, somewhere between your second glass of Spanish Garnacha and the arrival of a cast-iron pan sizzling with gambas al ajillo, when Logan Circle stops feeling like a Washington D.C. neighborhood and starts feeling like a back street in Barcelona. That moment happens at Estadio, and once you have experienced it, you will spend a considerable amount of time planning your return.

Estadio sits on the corner of 14th Street and P Street NW, anchoring one of the most culinarily vibrant corridors in the city. The name means “stadium” in Spanish, and the restaurant wears that identity with a knowing wink — the space is long and buzzing, lined with warm wood, deep-set banquettes, and tiles that wouldn’t look out of place in Seville. The lighting is just dim enough to feel romantic without making you squint at the menu. It is exactly the kind of room that makes an ordinary Tuesday feel like a small celebration.

But the room is merely the setting. The food is the reason you come, and you should come hungry. Chef de cuisine José Adorno oversees a menu built around the Spanish tapas tradition — small plates meant to be ordered in multiples, shared freely, and chased with good wine. The patatas bravas are a benchmark version: crispy, salty, and blanketed in a smoky aioli that is frankly addictive. The jamón croquetas arrive golden and molten-centered, the kind of thing you will absolutely order a second round of before the first is finished.

Do not skip the cheese and charcuterie selections, which are assembled with real care and rotate seasonally. The pintxos — those little Basque-style bites served on bread — change regularly, and whatever the kitchen has assembled that evening is almost always worth trying. For something more substantial, the suckling pig flatbread and the lamb chops with romesco have both earned devoted followings among the Logan Circle regulars who consider Estadio their personal dining room.

The wine list leans heavily and intelligently into the Iberian Peninsula, with plenty of bottles under forty dollars and a rotating selection of sherries that deserve far more attention than most American diners typically give them. The bar team takes their craft seriously, and the cocktail program reflects that — classic Spanish spirits given thoughtful modern treatment.

Estadio draws a lively, mixed crowd: government types unwinding after long days on the Hill, creative professionals from the surrounding neighborhood, visitors who did their homework before landing in D.C. Reservations are recommended for dinner on weekends, though the bar area often has walk-in space and is a perfectly lovely place to post up with a copa and a few plates.

Washington has no shortage of places to eat, but Estadio occupies a particular niche — it is festive without being loud, serious about its food without being stiff, and generous in a way that makes you feel genuinely welcomed rather than processed. If you find yourself on 14th Street on any given evening, do yourself the favor of walking through that door.
