WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) welcomed students back for the 2026‑27 academic year on Monday, implementing a series of operational updates aimed at improving consistency and technology access across the district.
Adjusted Start Times for Middle and High Schools
Ten middle and high schools in the county have new daily start times. The adjustments were made after a district‑wide review of transportation patterns and instructional needs. Revised Grading, Assessment and Reporting Practices
PWCS is continuing its phased rollout of updated grading and assessment policies for grades 6‑12. At the elementary level, assessments will be weighted 40 % formative and 60 % summative; middle and high schools will use a 30 % formative and 70 % summative split.

Technology Upgrade: iPads for All Students
In a move to standardize digital learning tools, every student from kindergarten through grade 12 will receive an iPad this year. The district believes the devices will enhance classroom instruction, support remote learning contingencies and provide equitable access to educational resources.
