Prince Harry and Meghan mocked on British SNL sketch after UK return

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the United Kingdom in late August and were quickly featured in a satirical sketch on the British version of “Saturday Night Live.” The comedy show used the format to poke fun at the couple’s recent Netflix contract, their lifestyle brand, and their decision to settle in a private residence outside London.

Sketch highlights

The opening scene depicted King Charles III and Queen Camilla enjoying a quiet weekend at Balmoral before the humor took a turn. Larry Dean, playing the king, joked about “clean Scottish air, dirty Scottish people,” while Emma Sidi’s Camilla quipped about having “no responsibilities – just like every other day.”

Jack Shep appeared as Prince Harry, entering the room with a line, “Daddy, I’m home,” followed by a comedic exchange about Meghan’s Netflix series “With Love, Meghan.” The sketch featured a gag where Meghan’s character presented an ice tray as a gift, with a tongue‑in‑cheek claim that she “made it herself” and was “kind of a wiz in the kitchen.”

The parody continued with the faux king questioning the Sussexes about their finances, prompting a mock‑up Harry to lament, “Don’t tell me you spent all your Netflix money already… it was $60 million! How long was it meant to last?”

Buckingham Palace response

Amid the jokes, Buckingham Palace issued a formal reminder that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain non‑working members of the Royal Family. A letter on behalf of King Charles III reiterated that since stepping back from official duties in January 2020, the couple’s status has not changed. Their royal styles remain in abeyance, and any charitable work they undertake is done in a private capacity, akin to private citizens with commercial interests.

The palace clarified that a change of address does not alter their royal standing, and the couple’s children, Archie (7) and Lilibet (5), have already enrolled in British schools for the upcoming term.

Public reaction

While the sketch drew laughter from viewers, it also highlighted ongoing public fascination with the Sussexes’ life after stepping back from royal duties. The parody underscores the tension between the couple’s desire for privacy and the media’s continued scrutiny of their choices.
