President Trump honors 9/11 victims at Pentagon ceremony, pledges national strength

On Friday, the Pentagon hosted a solemn ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, honoring the 184 service members who lost their lives that day. The event, attended by President Donald Trump for the second year in a row, featured moments of silence, a tolling bell, and the reading of each victim’s name.

President Trump’s remarks

President Trump addressed the crowd, emphasizing the nation’s resilience and the enduring power of the American spirit. “The 25 years since have shown us the even greater power of the American spirit to endure and prevail and to win. And today our country is stronger than it has ever been before,” he said. He offered a prayerful blessing for first responders, the United States military, and the country as a whole, saying, “God bless our unbelievable, brave and beautiful first responders. God bless the United States military. And God bless America.”

Reflections from former officials

Former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice also spoke, expressing deep personal remorse for the pain still felt by families of the fallen. “I will always carry deep personal remorse for the pain that you, the families of the fallen, still feel, and for the trauma our country endured,” Rice said. She added that the nation must use moments of reflection to teach the lessons of that day.

New visitor education center

Officials announced that a new visitor education center will break ground in Arlington, Virginia, near the Pentagon on Saturday. The Pentagon remains the only 9/11 site without a museum or education center. The new center, slated to open in 2029, will feature twelve interactive exhibits that detail the timeline of the attacks and the local and global response.

Community and national significance

The ceremony underscored the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by service members and first responders, while also highlighting the nation’s ongoing commitment to honor their legacy. By pairing remembrance with the upcoming education center, the administration aims to ensure that future generations understand both the tragedy and the resilience that followed.

As the nation reflects on this solemn milestone, the message from President Trump and other leaders was clear: the United States remains united, stronger, and steadfast in its dedication to liberty, faith, and family values.
