Pratt and Bass Likely to Compete in Los Angeles Mayoral Runoff

In the upcoming Los Angeles mayoral race, current Mayor Karen Bass and Republican challenger Spencer Pratt are on track to face each other in a runoff election scheduled for November 3. As of the latest count, Bass leads with 34.97% of the vote, while Pratt holds 29.91%. The results are being processed at the Los Angeles County Ballot Processing Center, with updates expected through June 26.

Runoff Dynamics

Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, another Democratic contender, has garnered 22.81% of the vote. Unless Raman surpasses Pratt, the runoff will proceed between Bass and Pratt. To avoid a runoff, either candidate would need to secure 51% of the vote, a scenario that appears unlikely given the current distribution.

Spencer Pratt, known for his previous career as a reality TV star, has been vocal about his criticisms of Mayor Bass’s handling of key issues such as wildfires, crime, homelessness, and housing. Pratt’s campaign has gained significant traction on social media, where he continues to highlight what he perceives as failures in Bass’s administration. Notably, Pratt lost his home in the Palisades Fire of January 2025, which has fueled his campaign rhetoric.

Campaign Controversies

Pratt recently accused Bass of illegal electioneering, claiming she campaigned too close to a ballot box, a charge that Bass’s campaign denies, asserting compliance with state law. This accusation is part of Pratt’s broader strategy to challenge Bass’s leadership and policies.

In her post-primary speech, Bass emphasized the foundation her campaign has built and rallied her supporters to continue their backing through the runoff. She expressed confidence in her campaign’s direction and the support she has received so far.

The outcome of this race will be closely watched, as it reflects broader political dynamics in Los Angeles, a city grappling with significant challenges that resonate with many residents.
