The Johnson County Library system is considering relocating its oldest branch to the city of Prairie Village’s civic campus. County Librarian Tricia Suellentrop presented a plan to the Prairie Village City Council on Monday, which includes a brand new Corinth Library at 7720 Mission Road.
Proposed Location and Design
The proposed location is in front of the city’s existing municipal complex, where a small community center and basketball courts currently exist. The ‘test-fit concept’ features a lower-level parking garage, a 20,000-square-foot first floor, and an 11,000-square-foot second floor with a green roof.
The current Corinth Library branch is around 20,000 square feet total, and the goal is to increase the new building to 30,000 square feet. The library system also plans to add a drive-thru, similar to its recent projects.
Next Steps
No action was taken by the city council on Monday, but library and city staff plan to continue discussions around a potential Corinth Library coming to 7720 Mission Road. The library board has already seen the test fit, and Suellentrop expressed hope that the city council will like the proposal enough to keep talking.
