Bend, Oregon is experiencing poor air quality due to wildfires in the region, including the Grasshopper fire near Mt. Hood and the Rowe Creek Complex West Zone north of Prineville.
Heat Wave Expected
A ridge of high pressure centered in the Desert Southwest will bring a heat wave to the area, with highs in the middle 90s on Wednesday and approaching triple digits on Thursday.
The dry air and light winds will combine with the heat to create a rich environment for rapid fire growth if a new fire starts. The current fires are being managed well, but some fire footprints may expand in these conditions.
The peak heating day will be Thursday, with high temperatures forecasted to reach or exceed 100 degrees. The heat wave will continue on Friday, with afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 90s.
Little relief is expected on Saturday, but temperatures will be a few degrees cooler, reaching the low 90s. Sunday and Monday will see upper 80s.
No precipitation is expected this week, which will not help with the drought conditions and firefighting efforts.
