Pittsburgh’s Picklesburgh festival, which takes place from July 16-19, will feature over 50 vendors selling pickle-forward food products and other merchandise on two of the city’s Sister Bridges — Roberto Clemente and Andy Warhol — plus Market Square and Fort Duquesne Boulevard.
Pickle Recipes
The festival has inspired several pickle-based recipes, including a brined chicken sandwich and a crunchy pickle salad. The brined chicken sandwich uses a combination of pickle juice and buttermilk to tenderize the meat, while the crunchy pickle salad combines chunks of dill pickles with sliced onion and fennel tossed in a mustard-y dressing.
Another unique recipe is the candied pickle sundae, which uses sweet bread-and-butter pickles candied in sugar to create a sweet and tangy topping for vanilla ice cream.
