Shasta County Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis has requested federal intervention due to alleged ballot irregularities in the June primary election. Curtis claims that many ballots did not feel or look right, prompting him to request authentication from federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Alleged Irregularities
Curtis provided about a dozen testimonials from election staffers and activists that describe alleged irregularities on ballots, such as claims that ballots were printer-made copies. Almost every informant donated to Curtis’ election campaign.
The testimonials also mention that some ballots appeared to have been machine-printed, with perfectly colored-in voting response squares and no pen indentations. Others claimed that ballots had different weights and paper types than others.
Request for Recount
California gubernatorial candidate Raji Rab has requested a statewide manual recount of ballots, citing concerns about the authenticity of Shasta County’s ballots. Rab wrote to the secretary of state, expressing concern about the alarming developments documented in the supplemental filing.
The secretary of state’s office has not responded to questions about Curtis’ concerns or whether his request for federal intervention might violate a new state law that bans law enforcement officers from interfering with elections.
