The Pirates had the Braves on the ropes Thursday morning at PNC Park — and then Mike Yastrzemski slammed the door shut. Pittsburgh trailed six to five heading into the ninth inning and had Atlanta’s bullpen on the ropes — but Dennis Santana couldn’t hold it.
With the bases loaded, Yastrzemski crushed a grand slam to blow the game open, and the Braves walked away with a 10-5 win. It was a gut-punch ending to what had been a competitive game.
Pirates Offense
Pittsburgh got three home runs on the afternoon — Jake Mangum had the biggest day with four hits, a homer, and three RBI. Bryan Reynolds and Esmerlyn Valdez also went deep. Mitch Keller started and gave up three runs in three innings, taking the loss, while Cam Sanders couldn’t get out of the first inning in relief.
Atlanta got home runs from Mike Yastrzemski, Jim Jarvis, and Matt Olson — spreading the damage across the lineup all afternoon.
Pittsburgh drops the series two games to one and now opens a weekend set against Milwaukee tomorrow night at PNC Park — first pitch 6:40pm EDT and the radio pregame at 6:15pm on WESB Sports, B107.5 FM.
