A shooting onboard a public transit bus in Pinellas Park sent one person to the hospital Sunday morning and led to the quick arrest of a suspect nearby.
Officers with the Pinellas Park Police Department were called to the intersection of US Highway 19 North and 49th Street North around 11:45 a.m. following reports of a gunshot victim on a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) bus. Upon arrival, police located a single victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The suspect fled the scene on foot immediately after the shooting. Officers searching the surrounding area located the individual shortly after near Freedom Lake Park, located at 9990 49th Street North. Police took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Department officials confirmed the investigation remains active, adding that there is no current threat to the public. Authorities plan to release additional information as the investigation proceeds.
