Drivers in Pinellas County, Florida, should plan for extra travel time next week due to a heavy schedule of roadwork. The Florida Department of Transportation has announced overnight, daytime, and round-the-clock lane closures on multiple major routes, including Interstate 275, US 19, and Gandy Boulevard.
Affected Areas
Commuters using Interstate 275 will face disruptions both on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and through north St. Petersburg. Nighttime lane closures on the Skyway Bridge are scheduled from Sunday, June 21, through Friday, June 26, between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Further north, southbound lanes on I-275 from Roosevelt Boulevard (Exit 30) to 54th Avenue North (Exit 26) will close overnight from Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
US 19 is also seeing a heavy concentration of overnight work. Three separate stretches of the highway will have lane closures from Sunday night through Thursday night. Drivers can expect closures from Tampa Road to Tarpon Avenue from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., while the segments from Main Street to Curlew Road and from Whitney Road to Main Street will close lanes from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Alternate US 19 will experience similar delays. The section between Meres Boulevard and Tampa Road will feature night closures and flagging from Sunday through Friday night, 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Meanwhile, daytime drivers on Alternate US 19 between East Curlew Place and St. Andrews Drive will encounter flagging operations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting Monday, June 22, through Saturday, June 27.
Gandy Boulevard (State Road 694) approaching and running through the I-275 overpass will experience night closures from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., beginning Sunday and wrapping up Thursday night. Daytime commuters should also keep an eye out for work on 4th Street North (State Road 687) from Gandy Boulevard to I-275, and Ulmerton Road (State Road 688) from 49th Street North to Egret Boulevard. Both stretches will have lane closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Several projects will require continuous, 24-hour lane closures. Eastbound Gulf to Bay Boulevard (State Road 60) from South Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard will have restricted lanes all day and night through the summer of 2026. Eastbound Curlew Road (State Road 586) from McMullen Booth Road to Tampa Road will see 24-hour closures extending into late 2026.
Lastly, the 62nd Avenue South Bridge over the Maximo Channel will feature around-the-clock lane closures through the summer, with a temporary traffic signal setup to manage two-way traffic over the bridge.
