Petition Calls for Removal of Arkansas Athletic Director After 43-10 Utah Defeat

University of Arkansas students have launched a Change.org petition seeking the removal of Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek after the Razorbacks suffered a 43-10 defeat to Utah. The petition, created by student Chase Osborn, had surpassed 3,000 signatures by Tuesday evening.

Student Concerns and Reactions

Students cited the lopsided loss as evidence that leadership changes are needed to restore confidence among Razorback fans. “If you’re out there losing to Utah by 35 points, that’s not acceptable,” said Bo Denton, a University of Arkansas student. Another student, Miles Moreland, expressed disappointment with the football program during Yurachek’s tenure.

Coach Silverfield’s Response

First‑year head coach Ryan Silverfield, hired in December, acknowledged the disappointment but urged the team to channel frustration into improvement. “There should be hurt, there should be frustration. But the ability and the attitude and the approach to get it fixed and get it fixed right now,” Silverfield said.

Broader View of Yurachek’s Tenure

While some students focus on football, others highlighted Yurachek’s broader contributions to Arkansas athletics. “I think we have to give some credit to the man who’s in charge of everything as a whole and not just nitpick one, albeit major part of the program, which is football,” said student Jackson Pearce, adding that Yurachek has done a great job overall.

Yurachek has served as Arkansas’ athletic director since December 2017. During his tenure he hired the program’s last three football head coaches—Chad Morris, Sam Pittman, and current head coach Ryan Silverfield.

Recent Athletic Achievements

Despite the recent football setback, Arkansas Athletics pointed to a strong overall record. The Razorbacks have captured 43 SEC championships over the past eight years, including 25 conference titles in the last five years, leading the SEC in those periods. The department has also finished in the Top 20 of the Learfield Directors’ Cup for six consecutive years, ranking 14th in the 2025‑26 cycle.

Additional highlights include national championships in men’s indoor and outdoor track and field for the 2025‑26 season and Arkansas softball’s first appearance in the Women’s College World Series.

Administration’s Position

Arkansas Athletics was contacted for comment on the petition. The communications director indicated the department has no comment at this time.

Upcoming Schedule

The Razorbacks will open SEC play on Saturday against No. 2 Georgia in Fayetteville, offering an early test for Coach Silverfield and the team.
