As the extreme heat warning continues, it’s essential to keep pets safe. The WLKY region is under an extreme heat warning through Thursday, with temperatures in the 90s and heat indexes as high as 115 degrees.
Pet Precautions
Whenever possible, keep your pet indoors. Hot surfaces, like asphalt and concrete, can burn a pet’s paws at high temperatures fast. If you bring your pet outside, try to keep them in shaded areas where it is cooler.
Keep a closer eye on any of your pets with shorter snouts and flatter faces, since they have a harder time breathing. Never leave a pet in a hot car, especially in hot weather. Cars can reach dangerous temperatures fast, even with the window cracked.
Make sure to give your pet lots of water to help them stay hydrated in the heat.
