Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is facing legal trouble in California wine country after an alleged afternoon hit-and-run left a parked vehicle with major damage.
Incident Details
The incident unfolded on July 3 around 2:30 p.m. when Napa County Sheriff’s Deputies answered a call regarding a collision in the 6700 block of Yount Street in Yountville. A witness at the scene told arriving deputies that a brown convertible had slammed into a vehicle parked on the side of the road.
According to the witness account, the driver of the convertible came to a brief stop immediately after the impact but then chose to drive away from the scene. The parked vehicle sustained heavy damage to its rear end.
Later that same afternoon, deputies spotted a brown convertible sitting directly in the roadway and blocking traffic on Yountville Cross Road. The vehicle showed significant damage to its front right side.
When deputies approached the disabled convertible, they identified the driver as 86-year-old Paul Pelosi.
According to official statements from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, Pelosi admitted to investigators that he had struck something while driving, but told them he “didn’t know what he hit” and consequently kept driving down the road.
A subsequent investigation conducted by the responding police officers determined that alcohol did not play a role in the crash. Pelosi now faces formal hit-and-run charges stemming from the afternoon collision and his departure from the initial scene.
