Pasadena Police Department officers have been placed on administrative leave after a ‘horseplay’ incident resulted in one officer inadvertently shooting another. The incident occurred in the department’s parking garage when two officers were standing outside a cruiser.
A dashcam video from an approaching cruiser showed an officer drawing his firearm and pointing it at the arriving vehicle. The gun was re-holstered, but moments later, the officer in the driver’s seat drew his firearm and pointed it in the direction of the other officers, discharging a round that struck an officer in the shoulder.
Investigation Update
Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris announced that a new investigation has been opened based on additional information provided by a witness after the video’s release. The officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave, and Chief Harris promised transparency in the investigation, stating that ‘thorough investigations take time, and I won’t rush one at the expense of the truth.’
