A recent survey conducted by EdChoice and Morning Consult found that American parents continue to value career readiness and life skills for their children. The survey also showed that parents support Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) for school choice, with 77% of self-identified MAGA supporters and 75% of liberals and progressives expressing support.
Key Findings
The survey, which polled approximately 2,250 adults and 1,300 school parents nationwide each month from March to May, found that bullying was the leading reason parents reported switching their child’s school, cited by 33% of respondents. Additionally, 24% of parents changed schools because their child’s academic needs were not being met.
The survey also found growing support for technology in education, with 60% of school parents supporting the use of artificial intelligence in classrooms, an increase of five percentage points since November. However, there is a divide on using AI in the classroom, with 77% of private school parents supporting its use compared to 53% of public school parents.
Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne emphasized the importance of preparing students for multiple pathways after graduation, including college and workforce entry. He also noted that Career and Technical Education remains a major focus for the Arizona Department of Education.
Support for School Choice
The survey highlighted the growing interest in ESAs, which can be used for a range of educational expenses, including homeschooling and private school tuition. This reflects parents’ desire for more flexibility in how and where their children learn.
